Walter Edwin Werner, Jr.

BLUFFTON, SC - Walter E. Werner Jr., "Ozzie", 82, died unexpectedly on November 22, 2010, while in retirement in Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA.
Ozzie attended Shady Side Academy before leaving Pittsburgh to begin the family tradition of attending Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA. After graduation he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he played football and continued a family tradition of membership in the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Ozzie was honorably discharged from the US Army after service at Fort Knox, KY.
After college Ozzie became the fourth generation in the family business, Oswald Werner and Sons Company, in the East End. In 1954 he expanded the family business into commercial and residential cleaning, first as an original franchise holder of ServiceMaster, and later taking the family name for his company, Werner Services of Greater Pittsburgh, Inc.
Ozzie was a past president of the East Liberty Rotary Club, a founder and past president of The Tri State Restorers and Specialty Cleaners Assn., and a member of the Pittsburgh Field Club. He attended Shady Side Presbyterian Church, was a long serving Judge of Election in Highland Park, a one-time candidate for Pittsburgh City Council, and a member of the Highland Park Community Club.
Surviving him are his devoted wife, Sally, his daughter Wendy Werner Leiti Scott of Naples, FL, and his son Walter E. Werner III Katherine, of Wexford. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John Kent Werner. Also surviving him are his grandchildren John Kent Werner Jr. Crystal, Jessica Werner Morris Ed, Scott Leiti Jr. Jennifer, Ashley Leiti, Courtney Leiti, Mathew Leiti, Whitney Werner Thayer Will, Madeline Werner, Christen Werner, Thomas Keiser, Stephanie Keiser, Alexander Keiser, and great grandchildren Justin, Ryan, Natalie and Zachary Werner.
The family invites friends to a memorial service at The Duquesne Club, 325 Sixth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA, at 1:00 PM on December 4, 2010, followed by a reception.
The family suggests that any remembrances be made in Ozzie's memory to the Imani Christian Academy, 2150 East Hills Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15221.
